Dive on both the Eastern and Western sides of this beautiful Mediterranean island, or take a short stay and tick the world renowned Zenobia wreck off your bucket list!
How to get here
Cyprus, the island of love is the most eastern island in the Mediterranean. It is also the most populous and the third largest. To get here, take a flight to one of the two international airports, Paphos or Larnaca - with direct flights from most regional airports in Europe, the main hubs being Athens, Brussels, Amsterdam, London, and Manchester.
Known as the 'Jewel of the Mediterranean' and legendary birthplace of Aphrodite, goddess of love and beauty, Cyprus enjoys one of the longest diving seasons in the Mediterranean. Here you will find unpolluted, crystal clear waters with undisturbed marine life and visibility of often over 30 meters. Cyprus is blessed with a multitude of diving sites that will give experienced divers thrill and provide beginners with perfect conditions, and with a rich underwater life with hundreds of colourful fish, seaweed, reefs, corals, shipwreck, underwater caves and much more.
When can you scuba dive?
The simple answer is; all year - weather permitting! Temperatures during winter months (January to March) are 18°C (65°F) on average. This is warm by any standard, but you should consider wearing proper thermal protection, especially when doing long dives. Look for plenty of sunshine and blue skies when choosing winter diving days. It's a beautiful, clear underwater world.
Spots to explore
One of the key attractions to diving in Cyprus are the gorgeous clear waters, however, the best news is that irrespective of whether you are an Intermediate or a seasoned professional, Cyprus offers something for everyone. There are wrecks galore, with another decent depth wreck being added to Larnaca later this year. It also hosts many other underwater attractions, and so can enjoy exploring such delights as the Wreck of the Zenobia, Diana, and the Liberty, as well as turtles, nudibranchs, triggerfish and rays, as well as solitary octopus and schools of jacks. Stingrays, and interesting rock formations, as well as the Amphorae Caves, located off Paphos, which still have intact ancient pottery, means that there's something for everyone.
Things to do in Cyprus
Other than scuba diving, Cyprus has a great deal to offer. There are many ancient sites, among them Kourion, Ancient Salamis, Kolossi Castle and St. Hilarion Castle, while Larnaca is a popular resort with holidaymakers. A visit to the Troodos villages, nine of which are UNESCO World Heritage status, makes for a relaxing drive. Cyprus also has many beautiful white sandy beaches, and delicious local cuisine which has Balkan, Middle Eastern, and Southern European influences.
